Draft Journal

September 24th, 2009:

From afar, this QB class looks like one of the best in years. Every once in a while you just get a class where stars are all across the board. There was 1981 with John Elway and Dan Marino, and there was 2005 with Eli, Philip and Big Ben.

I think that this could be one of those years. Sam Bradford is one of the best QB’s I have seen ever enter the NFL and players like Jevan Snead and Colt McCoy are both first round prospects. Jimmy Clausen is shooting up draft boards this year, and walterfootball.com projected him as their number one overall pick. Tim Hiller, while not very exciting has looked like a 1st to 2nd round pick. This year is crazy!

Usually, as the season progresses a few of these players drop out of the first round. Colt McCoy and Tim Hiller I could both see fall a few rounds back over the year, but Sam Bradford even with that injury still seems like a first round pick. This is a fun year to watch our QB’s and a great year to need one as well.

August 21st, 2009:

It’s impossible not to like Nose Tackle Dan Williams when you watch him play. It’s even harder not to see him as the perfect fit for the Broncos. Williams has a full set of skills and could be a total steal in round 3 or 4.

His most exciting trait has to be that he is probably the best run-stuffer in the entire SEC. He creates all sorts of problems for interior linemen and disrupts the pass well too. His size is awesome, and the truth is he is just an all around player. He would be the perfect fit for Mike Nolans’ offense and is a player to watch out for in round 3.

Every time I watch film of Ndamukong Suh, I like him more and more. Great piece of film here:

July 10th, 2009:

I really like Damian Williams, a WR from USC. He is even starting to rise up my draft board. He has breakaway speed and can jam at the line really well. His hands are really soft and he could in my opinion range anywhere from a 1st to a 3rd round pick at this point. I don’t have him in our first round right now, but I really like what he is showing. Of course it will depend on the Senior Season, but for now he looks good.

June 18th, 2009:

NFL Draft Dog.com has a scouting report of great interest about a small school prospect who I might keep an eye on. From Citadel College here is NFL Draft Dog’s Scouting Report on Wide Receiver Andre Roberts.

June 14th, 2009:

Something that I am going to keep an eye on this season is the progression of Notre Dame Quarterback Jimmy Clausen. A true Junior, if he was to play at an extremely high level I could potentially see him applying early for the draft and possibly becoming a second rounder.

Don’t hold your breath though Broncos fans, Clausen does not have the proper accuracy to play for McD’s scheme right now. That said, he does play under Charlie Weis, a former New England Patriot coach who Josh McDaniels studied under so the scheme would not be too difficult for him to comprehend. Still, the idea of a highly touted prospect from Notre Dame being drafted by the Broncos, I could get into.

June 12th, 2009:

Here is a great piece of film on Ciron Black an Offensive Tackle from LSU.

June 11th, 2009:

I was watching some film of Tim Hiller, a QB from Western Michigan, I noticed that he is surprisingly fit for a spread formation. His scheme at Western Michigan uses some shotgun formations and he seems very experienced while doing it. He also seemed relatively accurate on intermediate passes… Are we seeing a potential 2nd round pick for McDaniels? Maybe.
