Scouting Report: Maurkice Pouncey

April 7, 2010

Maurkice Pouncey, C, Florida, 6’5, 318 lbs

Strengths: Good height and a solid build … Moves on his feet very well … Pops off the line of scrimmage … Can fit into either a power or zone blocking scheme … Mirrors defenders nicely … Uses his hands well in run blocking … Can block multiple defenders … Has a good awareness, that seems almost like a 6th sense sometimes.

Weaknesses: When there are Nose Tackles stronger then him, he can be ran over … Arms aren’t very long … Doesn’t knock too many defenders around … Will need to develop his short snap technique … Needs to learn to extend his arms.

Overview: Pouncey is by far the best Center in the NFL Draft. There is even talk that he might be the first Center ever to go in the top 15 picks of the draft. When you get past the fact that his arms aren’t very long and he needs to man up to larger defenders, I have don’t see anything else that will stop him from being an elite Center in the NFL.

1st rounder
