Scouting Report: Jason Pierre-Paul

April 2, 2010

Jason Pierre-Paul, DE/OLB, South Florida, 6’6, 265 lbs

Strengths: Solid size with some room to bulk up … Bursts off the line … Very fast … Superior athleticism … Has a good feel for the snap count … Plays well in coverage … Has a big repertoire of pass rush moves … Uses his hands well … Can play as an OLB in a 3-4 or a DE in a 4-3.

Weaknesses: Doesn’t show great awareness against the run … Needs to play with a lower pad level … If he could learn some more bull rush moves, it would be helpful … Not very consistent … Doesn’t seem to get very motivated.

Overview: JPP is your classic boom or bust pick. In three years from now, two things could happen: He will be one of the top pass rushers in the NFL, or he will be out of the NFL. He’s really risk business and I don’t think worth the Broncos first round pick, but there will be a team looking to take a risk and when it comes to risk/reward players, they don’t come much bigger than Pierre-Paul.

1st rounder

It would be a huge mistake to take Pierre-Paul after today’s ruling.
