Broncos Not Taking Calls on Marshall

March 7, 2010

Earlier today, Michael Lombardi dropped a little bit of news in his Sunday column on the Brandon Marshall “trade” status. While he says that he fully expects another team to drop themselves into the Marshall sweepstakes, apparently they will have to acquire him through Restricted Free Agency.

According to Lombardi the Broncos are not taking calls on Brandon Marshall and if teams want to acquire him, they will have to send an offer sheet. The purpose of this of course, is to make sure that they receive a first round pick for Marshall.

So now the options come down to the Broncos receiving a first round pick in the draft, or he will play in Denver next season. As Lombardi put it “Either a team is prepared to pay a first-rounder or move along.” This means that if Seattle really wants Marshall, they better be ready to part with their 6th overall pick in the draft.

This is probably a good move by Denver. I know that a lot of fans, including myself would be very disappointed if the Broncos only came away with a day 2 or 3 pick. I can live with Marshall returning, but I can’t live with him leaving for unfair compensation.

So otherwise, expect things to move pretty slowly today. That said, we’ll keep you updated here and at our free agent tracker below. Just clicky the banner.

I agree. I’d like to see him stay but…for a first round pick i’d trade him. Denver hasn’t been to the playoffs since we got him anyways so it’s not like he single handedly can put us over the top. This is a team sport not a one man show. This team has a lot of issues that need to get fixed before it will win a Superbowl. I’m for anything that will help make the team better.

Great move by the Broncos, don’t trade him! If anything get a high draft pick.

I disagree. Take whatever we need to get him out of Denver.

No team is going to up a #1 draft choice for Marshall. Where’s all the taker’s? Either Denver is going to have to lower the asking price or you’ll have an unhappy player back. One that said he hates your F***ing city.
