McDaniels: “Scheffler & Marshall Can Return.”

February 27, 2010

For months now even before the end of the season, it has been rumored that Josh McDaniels thinks that Tony Scheffler and Brandon Marshall have worn our their welcome in Denver. According to McDaniels in todays’ NFL Combine press conference, that rumor is totally false, and they could very well return to Denver next season.

When asked about their futures with the Broncos, McDaniels said this: “They played an important role to our team this year.  I don’t see why that has to change. Certainly, there are some things that are going to go into this, but there’s no question in my mind [they can return.]”

I’ve been skeptical of these rumors for a little while now, because both sides have been coming out, shooting them down left and right. Mike Klis made a great point for instance saying that Brandon Marshall has gotten along fine with tough coaches in the past like George O’Leary of UCF. McDaniels is easy on him compared to O’Leary.

“Our coaching staff is really excited about the direction we’re going in.  Hopefully we can deal with a few less distractions, but that’s part of the game.  Every team deals with it . . . that’s what we had to last year.”

I’m starting to get excited about free agency, because we may bring back some great players and I feel like we might end up adding some too.

I wouldn’t resign Scheffler. He doesn’t add anything anymore. It’s time to start transitioning Richard Quinn in.
