Scouting Report: Jerry Hughes

February 15, 2010

Jerry Hughes, DE/OLB, TCU

Strengths: Fast for a Defensive End … Quick and agile … Bends off the edge of protection with ease … Terrific range … Extremely athletic … Is deadly in pursuit and has a great burst to close in on the tackle … Active motor … Hard worker … Very versatile … Productive … Good ball skills.

Weaknesses: Undersized for Defensive End … Not good against the run at all … Sometimes will get locked in blocks … Doesn’t have a big range of pass rushing moves … Sometimes can be too aggressive against the pass … Will probably have to change positions.

Overview: It’s hard to peg a guy like Jerry Hughes. He was extremely productive in college and one of footballs’ greatest pass rushers. He is fast, agile and athletic but has proven himself to also be a liability especially against the running game. Hughes could be limited in his career to simply rushing the pass on 3rd downs, but might find plenty of success there.

2nd to 3rd rounder
