Broncos Sign Aukerman as Defensive Assistant Coach

February 11, 2010

Today it was announced that Craig Aukerman will be hired as a Defensive Coaching assistant by the Denver Broncos, after being hand chosen by Broncos new defensive coordinator, Don Martindale. Aukerman, 33, enters his 11th coaching season, his first at the NFL level, after serving in various capacities in 10 seasons at the collegiate level.

Last year he coached Linebackers at Kent State where he held other teams scoreless for 4 straight games riding on the backs of Kent State’s strong Linebacking core. Before his stint at Kent State, Aukerman spent four seasons at the University of Miami Ohio where he started as the linebackers coach before adding co-special teams coordinator duties in 2007.

It is expected that he will coach Linebackers on the Broncos also, replacing Martindale who was promoted from Linebackers coach to Defensive Coordinator. Before coaching, Aurkerman played Defensive Back and Wide Receiver at Findlay College.

Aukerman will work with D.J Williams, Andra Davis, Elvis Dumervil and Robert Ayers among others, in improving the Broncos defense from it’s #7th slot last year.
