Scouting Report: Jared Veldheer

January 3, 2010

Jared Veldheer, OT, Hillsdale, 6’7, 325 lbs

Strengths: Physical freak … Very athletic … Has very nimble feet … One of the best pass protectors in college football … Can sustain blocks … Long arms and good natural strength … Is good with positioning and angles … Stays balanced … Could actually bulk up a bit … Durable … Team leader.

Weaknesses: Did not play against good competition last year, will be making a huge adjustment … Doesn’t mirror his opponent well … Very raw … Needs to work on protecting the run … Sometimes shies away from violence.

Overview: I can’t really get a good feel on Veldheer right now. I don’t think anyone really can. I see potential for him to play either tackle or guard which is a plus, and the fact that he is so good on his feet will seduce a lot of NFL teams. Personally, I don’t think he will be right for the Broncos. We need run-blockers right now, especially ones who are ready to play now. I don’t think Veldheer is.
