Broncos Trample Chiefs at Arrowhead

December 6, 2009

The Broncos have officially secured a .500 or more record for this season, and assuming that we beat the Chiefs again and the Raiders again, and maybe even the Eagles, then it is almost certain that we will have at least 10 wins this season, and maybe even 11.

But getting to that feeling of security started today against the Kansas City Chiefs where we absolutely demolished them at home. The Broncos who had beaten the New York Giants the previous week on Thanksgiving night, headed into Arrowhead in hopes of getting a step closer to a wild card birth, something now that seems more than in reach.

The Broncos started out the game on fire, with Correll Buckhalter and Knowshon Moreno pounding it down the field with Kyle Orton airing it out to Brandon Marshall. As we’ve seen all season, when these four parts are all in sync, we are almost unstoppable.

Kyle Orton finished the night with a 92.1 QB rating, 180 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception. 94 of those yards were caught by Brandon Marshall who also had a touchdown. We saw just how deadly he was when Kyle Orton threw a bubble screen to him, he took advantage of his blocks and ran for 48 yards before being tackled in the red zone.

On defense, André Goodman was excellent, picking off a pass, recovering a fumble for a touchdown, and racking up 4 tackles.

Correll Buckhalter had 113 yards, 53 of which came on one drive where he only ran the ball 3 times. He averaged 9.7 yards a carry. Knowshon Moreno had two touchdowns, and 86 yards making an even bigger case for the Rookie of the Year awards. At the end of the game Peyton Hillis also ran the ball, and showed just how great he could be, powering down the field for 47 yards at the end.

With some great Broncos coaching and some poor Chiefs coaching as well as a load of mistakes by them, it made it easy for the Broncos to advance to 8-4 in their push for the playoffs.
