Scouting Report: Toby Gerhart

October 12, 2009

Toby Gerhart, RB/FB, Stanford, 6’0, 231

Strengths: Great size … Excellent balance … Has a lot of lower body strength … Runs through arm tackles … Good vision and instincts … Always falls forward … Breaks a lot of tackles … An amazing blocker … Has a deadly stiff arm … Gives a good second effort … Tough to stop in the red zone/short yardage runs … Hard worker … Can play halfback or fullback.

Weaknesses: Not very fast … Isn’t an elusive running back … Doesn’t turn the corner well … Will have trouble breaking big runs in the pros … No second gear … Doesn’t always keep the ball secure … Doesn’t have much experience as a pass rusher.

Overview: I love Toby Gerhart. Seriously, take one look at some film of him and you will be sold. In fact, I can’t imagine a way that he won’t succeed in the NFL in some aspect. At the very least he will be an effective fullback or he will be deadly in short yardage situations. He might even have the ability to be a number one back. For the start of his career though, he will probably have to play number two.

2nd to 3rd round
