Breaking: Broncos Trade For Hochstein

August 25, 2009

hochsteinThe Denver Broncos today, announced yet another deal between them and Josh McDaniels’ former team, the New England Patriots. After yesterday acquiring former Patriots Cornerback Antwain Spann of waivers and trading for Defensive Tackle Le Kevin Smith, they have announced a trade for Patriots Offensive Linemen Russ Hochstein.

Terms have not yet been disclosed, but it looks to be a late round pick. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first broke the news from his twitter page:

Denver and New England at it again. This time the Broncos acquire offensive tackle Russ Hochstein from the Patriots for late-round 2010 pick

This is yet another good move by McDaniels and Xanders to provide some much needed depth at Offensive Line. It has been a question whether we are secure at Offensive Line behind our starters and Russ Hochstein, will be a very solid backup.

Hochstein, will probably play behind Ben Hamilton on the depth chart, assuming that they are both Guards and Centers. Hochstein has started over 20 games in his consistent, 9 year career. He is known for being versatile and effective on the line.

Getting a player who understands the offense already, is rare and valuable. I hope we don’t have to see Hochstein play, but if we do I think we can all rest a bit easier knowing our Offensive Line is safe.

UPDATE: The Broncos announced in a press release that the trade involved a 7th round pick in the 2010 draft. They also announced that they waived Tackle Stanley Bryant from the team to make room for Hochstein.
