Marshall Being Benched, Humiliated.

August 19, 2009

marshallI support Josh McDaniels and I agree with many of the changes that he has made. That said, McDaniels has made a very poor decision as of late, regarding Broncos Pro Bowl Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall. As if tempers weren’t high enough between Marshall and the Broncos, Josh McDaniels seems to be purposely humiliating Brandon Marshall.

After Jamie Dukes and his b.s bombshell report was released two days ago, tensions between the two parties are very strong. McDaniels has decided to play Marshall with the second team because he does not understand the playbook as well and has been injured for most of camp.

Understood. But, it isn’t as simple as that. McDaniels, had he left it like that, would be out of the woods in my book. You have to earn your spot starting. Marshall hasn’t done that yet. But McDaniels today, is taking it a step to far by making Marshall play with the scout team (aka the practice squad.) That isn’t doing anything but trying to humiliate Marshall.

I totally disagree with this.

A coach should never, ever try to purposely humiliate a player. Especially a Pro Bowler, who already dislikes this team right now. Now as if that wasn’t enough, look who is starting over Marshall: In our 4 Wide Receiver set, undrafted free agent Matthew Willis was starting over Marshall.

What is going on here? I don’t care if Matthew Willis has played amazing this training camp. This is crossing a line. Brandon Marshall is a Pro Bowl Wide Receiver! He has had two straight seasons with over 100 catches! All McDaniels is doing, is trying to purposely alienate him and turn the team against him. That won’t work.

All that will do, is turn Broncos from the Mike Shanahan era against McDaniels. I’m sorry, but I would rather have Champ Bailey, Eddie Royal and Ryan Clady (in my opinion our three best players) on McDaniels side.

McDaniels really needs to think this through because this is poorly advised and stupid. We’ll keep our eyes on this one for you.

    Garrett,

He is not being benched. McDaniels has him on scout team acting like Seattle WR’s. That’s it nothing more to the story.

I think there’s more to it than that. McDaniels has brought this entire undertone that’s against Brandon Marshall. It’s one thing had he done it to anyone else, but because he is putting an undrafted free agent in front of a pro bowl wide receiver, it seems that all he is trying to do is humiliate him.

If they expect to make any progress in this standoff, they need to show the same amount of respect for each other.

I agree if indeed he is trying to show him up. They need to just pay him his money! We cannot under any circumstances lose our best player after losing our best player to the Bears!

We do need to pay him his money, but he does have to show that he hasn’t given up on the Broncos before we give him a giant contract.

There is no I in the word TEAM plus B-Marsh has been hurt. He isn’t health enough to play full speed right now. Shanahan is history, so lets please let go of that and move on. We have a whole new staff in town. What we need to address is our QB situation and keep everyone on the same accord. This is a TEAM J-Mack is trying to build not individuals. Who cares about Brandon practicing with the practice squad, he needs the snaps and work his way back into the offense. Plus the WR’s i saw last preseason game looked good to me. I believe in the system.

The Broncos need to trade him sooner than later. He has become a distraction to the team.

Brandon needs to be treated with the respect of the best player on the team. You do not make the team’s best player sit and waste his time with the scout team. If he is really lacking when it comes to knowledge of the system he needs to be inserted into the offense and get even more reps, not play with a bunch of scrubs and learn another team’s offense. This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. “The coach” needs to get his head out of his hind quart.
