Broncos Add a Running Back

August 12, 2009

The Broncos today added another running back to their stable that already includes Correll Buckhalter, Knowshon Moreno and Ryan Torain among many others. The running back is named Marcus Thomas. *Snicker* No, it’s not the same Broncos Defensive Tackle, Marcus Thomas.

Thomas (not the Defensive Linemen) was drafted by San Diego in the 5th round of the 2008 draft. He was waived during final cuts with the Chargers and then spent time on the Lions, Cowboys and the Browns roster last season.

There is no word yet on who, if anyone, was waived from the Broncos or at least placed on the Injury Reserve. The Broncos haven’t even officially announced the signing yet but when they do, it will appear in our update box.

In other news, there are rumors afloat via Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, that Moreno could start as soon as Firdays’ pre-season game against the 49ers. He wrote this in his most recent blog post:

It was hard to spend any time at Broncos camp earlier this week and not come away impressed with rookie RB Knowshon Moreno… He will go in as the starter in the preseason opener.

We’ll keep our eyes peeled on that little tidbit. While not sure whether or not we can trust La Canfora as he is brand new to NFL Network it certainly is exciting to see that Moreno has progressed so quickly that he could get the starting running back job after only 3 practices!
