Moreno, Broncos Far Apart

July 27, 2009

Picture 1Last night the Broncos signed all but two of their draft picks leaving only their two first round picks. Knowshon Moreno who was drafted #12 overall from Georgia is reportedly far apart from the Broncos in contract discussions according to The Denver Post. That said as of Sunday night, only four of 32 first-round picks had reached agreements.

One NFL source went so far to say that there is “no way” that Knowshon Moreno will be playing for the Broncos on the first day of the unofficial start of training camp. Training camp will officially begin in 3 days, where all players have to attend.

The Broncos drafted Moreno in the 1st round of the NFL Draft. He is expected to earn a bit more than $12 million dollars in a 5 or 6 year deal.

During college he was a two-time first-team All-Southeastern Conference running back whose 2,734 career rushing yards in two seasons at the University of Georgia ranked first in the SEC. He also ranked sixth in the nation and second among the country’s underclassmen during that time. Moreno also averaged 105.2 rushing yards per game during his career at Georgia.

I expect Moreno to be in training camp by the official start and while I’m not happy, I’m not worried. Moreno seems to be a class act and I am sure the Broncos are happy to have his skill and attitude. Let’s get him locked up and ready to go!
