Broncos Sign Richard Quinn

July 23, 2009

Picture 1On the day after the signing of 5th round Wide Receiver Kenny McKinley from South Carolina, the Denver Broncos are announcing that they have reached an agreement with another Denver Bronco Draft Pick from North Carolina. The agreement is with Richard Quinn a second round Tight End from UNC.

Quinn was one of McDaniels most surprising picks. By some scouts Quinn was not expected to be drafted until the late rounds, but McDaniels traded for the Tight End in the second round by giving up two third round picks.

While he had only 12 catches at North Carolina, Quinn was known as one of the best blocking Tight Ends in college football. Since Josh McDaniels’ spread offense requires two Tight Ends sets, Quinn should be an asset in the run game eventually. He will also have the opportunity of learning from the NFL’s best current run blocking Tight End, Daniel Graham.

While at UNC Quinn was named an honorable mention All-American by as a redshirt junior for North Carolina in 2008. He did this while catching eight passes for 97 yards with one touchdown as part of a Tar Heels offense that led the Atlantic Coast Conference in passing efficiency (138.9).

He also started 20 games during his final two seasons at UNC, including 12 of the 13 contests he appeared in for the Tar Heels in 2008.
