Broncos Select Blake Schlueter

Blake Schlueter

With their final pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Broncos selected Blake Schlueter, a center from TCU.  Schluetler, at 6-2 286, is one of the better center prospects available today, and will be groomed to be the eventual replacement to aging center Casey Weigmann.

This pick is somewhat confusing, however, and follows the same trend as the rest of the draft.  The Broncos came into today with many holes on their defense, and instead spent six of their 10 picks on the offensive side of the ball.  That being said, the picks have been good, smart picks on players that could very easily succeed in the NFL, and I believe that Schluetler will someday be a viable center in the league.  The lack of defensive picks, however, does alarm me.  Check back later for a full analysis of draft day 2.
