Broncos Move Up Again, Select Tom Brandstater

Tom Brandstater

As we all expected, the Broncos selected their quarterback project, selecting Tom Brandstater with the first pick in round six.  The Broncos sent a seventh round pick this year, as well as a 2010 fifth round pick, to the Lions in order to move up to this spot.  Brandstater, however, seems like a perfect fit for McDaniels’ system, as he is very big (6-5, 220) and mobile.  He also has a big time arm, and played in a pro-style offense at Fresno State.

While I do like this pick, this draft is starting to concern me a little bit.  I believe Brandstater is a good pro prospect for McD to work with, but the fact that the Broncos have spent more of than half of their nine picks on offense is very concerning.  The Broncos were atrocious on defense last season, and many thought this would be a very defensive draft for them.  I sure hope McDaniels knows what he’s doing on that side of the ball, because if substantial improvement isn;t made defensively, he could be in for a very long year in Denver.
