Jay Cutler WILL Wear Orange & Blue… Kind of.

Kyle Orton

Kyle Orton

I said time and time again that Jay Cutler would not spend the 2009 season wearing orange and blue. I was wrong. He is going to be a Bear.  So I guess in fact he will  be wearing orange and blue next season. All satire aside though every single Broncos fan/draft junkie like myself is jumping up and down at the idea of two 1st round picks two years in a row. It is an exciting thought.

And I know many of you hate the move but I am staying very optimistic about Kyle Orton playing QB for us next year. Orton with limited tools put on a decent debut season as a starting Quarterback and has impressed a lot of players with his good arm and decent accuracy. While he is not exactly a system QB, he could easily learn it from Josh McDaniels and become proficient in the use of it.

Part of the attraction to Kyle Orton is that he has great touch to his throws as evidenced by a touchdown pass against the Texans in week 17 where he lobbed a Touchdown to Brandon Lloyd in man to man coverage right over him and let him jump for the ball. It was very impressive and every single year Kyle Orton has improved. With Josh McDaniels and the rest of our offense, he could make huge strides next year.

In some ways Orton and Cutler aren’t all that different. They both have a gun-slinger mentality and aren’t afraid to throw in to traffic. The difference is that Orton has thrown a lot less Interceptions than Jay Cutler even in the small amount of playing time he has had compared to Cutler.

He is also a good decision maker and is not afraid to sit and relax in the pocket until he can make a play. One good thing about him coming to Denver is that he will not have to rely on a weak receiving core. Orton might find a nice home in the new Spread Offense with great wide receivers like Eddie Royal, Brandon Marshall, Brandon Stokley, and Jabar Gaffney.

It could in fact do wonders for his career. Kyle Orton opposed to Jay Cutler is actually a proven winner. Orton has been a hairs breath from making it to the playoffs and has as a starter had 21 wins and 12 losses which is much better than Cutlers career record. The Broncos offense is much better than the Bears and if the picks we have just gotten can be successful in getting young Defensive Stars, we could be heading for a very prolific time in Broncos history.

But now that I have explained why Kyle Orton will be a decent fit in Denver let’s move on to those draft picks we have. Let’s first create the scenario that the Bears only have an average season next year. Like, I don’t know, 8-8. (I am not suggesting that will be their record, I am simply creating a scenario.) The Broncos on the other hand go 9-7. (I am suggesting we will go 9-7.)

If that was to happen we would have two mid round picks and we already know we have two mid round picks this year and another 3rd round pick. Let me put this clearly: We are set. The Broncos could possibly with these two picks get B.J Raji who has less teams in the top 10 that are interested in him than before and Tyson Jackson who could easily drop to the 18th pick.

Right there, you have a vastly improved Defense no matter what happens. They could both be average at best and it would be an upgrade. Then, we still have that 2nd round pick which could be used on a Darry Beckwith or a Victor Harris. (Most likely a Victor Harris.) In the 3-4 Darry Beckwith would probably immediately start and in at least on year Victor Harris would be.

There are so many infinite possibilities, I can’t even put it into words. The next year, if Kyle Orton flops, we can get a QB and improve the Defense yet again with another pick. It really is exciting. So for those of you who are doubting this trade, I have to tell you that in the long run I think we will all be glad that this happened.

Oh and one more thing: am I the only one who wants to see Orton wear number 8 instead of 18?

Bye Bye Jay! Dont Let The Door Hit You On The Way Out!

this is the worst thing i’ve seen since be’n a fan starting in ’93

hope we draft Tim Tebow next year, last year i really hated orton and often joked and made fun of him — now he’s our QB!

think of Jay and Devin in Chicago i’m a little tinnie winnie bears fan still broncos all the way just sad and surprised

I am actually excited for next season. Sure we don’t have Jay but Kyle has all of the tools around him to succeed.

I think Jay will be in trouble next season. Take him from being a guy who drops back 40 times a game to throw too a slew of weapons, and turn him into a guy who drops back 25 times and throws to a kick returner, and you have a recipe for mediocrity.

      Kyle Orton all the way.

I think Tim Tebow is a half back, not a quarterback. All he does is run up the middle. In the NFL he will get injured with that kind of playing style.

I agree Sonny. I’ve said this all along; Tebow does not have the tools to be a starting NFL QB. He has poor mechanics, poor pocket presence, and tends to leave the pocket too soon. He is the classic example of a great college QB who never succeeds as an NFL QB.

I’m a Bears fan and let me tell you, you are in LALA LAND. Orton is a nice guy but he has no arm! How can you compare him to Cutler? I pity you.

    • April 3, 2009 5:42 AM

again he right now is NOT as good as Cutler. But his arm is not bad and I am ready to put some trust in him whether i should or shouldn’t.

    hey guys get this:
Bus Cook was found in dead on a back road in Chicago, and Josh McDaniels wife and kids were killed, and McDan is missing and the Broncos got a note that read:

‘Trade for Jay Cutler and Josh will live’

no no, you could see it all over his face, the kidnappers let him go ’cause they did not want it to get out about them(who knows why) so anyways they told him to act normal and where to meet them when if it was over, and if he did not then — he’s a dead man…

till the broncos trade for Cutler Josh will be held captive, and will never EVER live a normal life
