Exclusive Draft Profile: Arian Foster

March 31, 2009

Wow, it has been a little while since we have done one of these so this week I will get caught off on my draft profiles. Here is one for Arian Foster who is by far one of the most underrated players in the NFL Draft. So enjoy his brand new draft profile!

Arian Foster

Arian Foster

Name: Arian Foster

Position: Running Back

School: Tennessee

Height & Weight: 6-1 / 215

Class: Senior

What I Think: Arian Foster is by far one of the more underrated players in the draft after a not so flashy senior season with multiple injuries. Foster has good size and bulk, and displays excellent patience when running. He waits for the right time to burst to the hole and is an expert at counter, and Halfback Delay running plays. That said though, if he wants to, he can hit the hole fast and quickly. He has a powerful burst. He has good instincts and excellent field vision. Foster has a very high football I.Q and can learn a system with ease. He is very nimble on his feet, and he has very good strength. Foster is a very powerful running back and can truck any Linebacker in college football easier than you might think. I could see him fitting into a West Coast offense with his soft hands. He rarely ever drops balls going along well with his excellent ball skills. In most of his time at Tennesee, Foster was super productive and showed signs of being a great blocker too. Foster lacks great speed though and is not quick and/or elusive. He runs too tall and will have a lot of trouble turning the corner in the pros. Also he is not a great open field runner and does not show any signs of being a big play threat in the NFL. Foster also does not break many tackles and in most cases is down on first contact which will scare off a lot of NFL teams. There are some minor durability concerns to him too. His senior year was very disappointing especially after he was ranked as a potential second round pick last year. Also teams should watch out for his character.

Draft Grade: C

I’d say so, there are definitely some problems but he is a good late round value.
