Bowlen Says Cutler will be Traded

Jay Cutler

Jay Cutler

Has the Jay Cutler fiasco finally come to an end? Not quite, but we are now pretty sure of the direction. In a statement released Tuesday night, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen stated that the Broncos will accommodate Jay Cutler’s trade request.

Cutler, who, at 25 years old, threw for 4,526 yards and 25 touchdowns in his first Pro Bowl season last year, has had one foot out the door since the beginning of the free agency period, when McDaniels attempted and failed to trade him for Matt Cassel. After over a month of will they/won’t they Cutler trade talks, it seems as Broncos fans might finally know what the outcome may be.

This could have not come at a more inauspicious time, however, as the Broncos had remained adamant in their “Jay Cutler is our quarterback,” cries. But, it seems as they were just delaying the inevitable. Pat Bowlen had this to say about the decision to trade Cutler:

“Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by head coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful. A conversation with his agent (Bus Cook) earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded.”

The Broncos have reportedly been receiving interest from the New York Jets, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings. The problem with these potential suitors, however, is that none of them can really offer a viable starting QB in return.

At this point, I am ok with the situation. Cutler has shown that he is just barely mature enough to be an NFL quarterback, and if this is what he will do every time he doesn’t like something, maybe he should go. The only thing I will say is that the Broncos must either get an extra first round pick (or picks), or a viable starting quarterback. If they do intend on trading a 25 year old franchise QB, they’d best get max value for him.

Be sure to check back this week for a full analysis of the trade situation, and our opinions of where he may go next.

this is the stupidest thing ive ever heard mcdaniels is a retard… for now. i would take lance briggs and some draft pics for cutty

This is disappointing to say the least. I have to be on McDaniels side on this just because Cutler is acting totally immature. It is one thing to ignore the head coach, or even G.M. But when you are disrespecting the man who signs your paycheck who in reality has done nothing wrong, it is shameful. It truly shows him and his agents’ true colors (which are not orange and blue).

Mark, if you are talking about horvils language don’t worry… haha. it’s a joke. he even has a site which you can see. but that aside, i don’t think we are the worst team just yet. if we get a decent QB like Quinn, Leinert, or Henne we won’t be the worst. It should be interesting to see what happens…

    Hello Garrett:

You may want to check out the article from Mile High Sports

It talks about how McD, X, and Bowlen are maneuvering fans to blame Cutler. Good article.

I read that, i can’t say i totally agree with it but it is still interesting.

no QB’s in the dfart will be anything much in the NFL there’s not Matt Ryan this year the QB’s are overated and had good teams, plus Quinn I’m not sure about, Leinart is not good at ‘tall Cutler’s WAAAAAAY better than both and who Henne!!?? anyway?

i wish this was a mean April Fools joke this is all aweful I’m really mad at McDaniels he started it all, if Shanny was still here none of this would have happened, but at the same time we would probably whould not have such like free agency and stuff W/ Shanahan IDK this is all horrible just wish we can keep Cutler, make Peyton Hillis our RB, leave WR’s alone, DON’T TOUCH THE O-LINE! move Elvis to LOLB, make D.J. and and Andre middle move Boss to ROLB, fix some how our D-Line keep Champ involved, use Jack Williams more, start Brian Daw, draft some body like Taylor mays or William Moore for the other side, make Matt Pratter consitent, keep spencer larsen on ST, and BOOM — the Broncos go to the SUPER BOWL! lol if it were that easy, why’d they have to mess everything up W/ Cutler!?

    • April 1, 2009 9:30 AM

I agree that there is no one as good as Cutler Jon, don’t get me wrong lol. But I just feel as if this was coming, and that the situation was very poorly handled by Cutler and Cook.

oh and we would have to wait another year for Taylor Mays. He is not in the draft this year.

  9. April 1, 2009 3:57 PM

i didn’t think he was thats why i said “some one LIKE Taylor Mays or Moore”…

  10. April 1, 2009 3:58 PM

and i think he’s smart to not be in the draft seems to not work out to well when players enter young/early

    Rex Grossman…

So what Bowlen keep calling!!! send hot naked women to his house to try and get him back, offer more money, promise to pay his taxes for the rest of his life, something, but don’t you dare let this guy go….you….idiot!!! I have been a die hard Bronco fan since i was 3, i have the orange crush one piece pj’s to prove it, lol! went to two full home seasons, the ‘77 Superbowl, when i was 7. Saw the drive 1&2, and worshiped Elway and his 40+ 4th quarter comebacks! i have been a season ticket holder for 16 years, until this year. Also until this year thought we had the best management in the business, But i guess Alzheimer’s has finally struck Bowlen, i mean are you kidding me? first off i can’t stand this guy McDaniel’s, don’t like his demeanor, attitude, or do i feel he is Bronco material. To have fired Shanny, a decision that leaves a bad taste in my mouth, after the patchwork job that he did with all the injuries that he had to contend with, is already inexcusable. To bring in another Patriots asst coach, all other Belichick’s asst have been busts, who then fires the offensive coordinator of the 2nd best offense, is poor judgement and all about the coaches pride, he’s go0nna have his guys, so if successful the credit lands on his shoulders. And now this…. possibly the best quarterback, in his future career, to ever play the position, first dangled like an apple, and now officially being traded? I gave up my season tickets today, to a friend who has wanted them for 5 years, he’s stoked, but i feel bad for him, as i feel the future as a broncos fan isn’t going to be the same, or even close to it. This isn’t the team i grew up watching and have die hardly supported for 35+ years. I think it started when they took the team out of the magic of the rodeo arena at Mile high and named the new stadium after a corporation. The broncos have always been a team that you don’t count out, a team that stood by it’s players, a team that listened to it’s fans. Obviously if this was still true the broncos would still have Shannahan, and this Cutler biz never would have come up. If they gave a dam anymore about what the fans thought they’d never have even stepped in this direction. I would love to think that maybe the fans will show some solidarity and skip the home opener and every game after that until Bowlen either steps down, sells the team, reacquires Mike, and Jay, and runs this jacko McDaniels out of town for coming to Denver and trying to destroy the franchise. Which won’t happen, so i guess i will just have to look at my 2500 strong Broncos trading card collection including six complete mint sets of every card printed of Elway, lol, and remember what was, because i’m finished unless they change alot of things, and everyone in the broncos staff and head office swallow their foolish pride! Go Cutler! Sincerely, can no longer handle this BS

    • April 2, 2009 10:28 AM

You have some good points Shawn, but I think if you give him just 3 years, the team will be better than ever before. I still miss Shanahan but I think the new mindset McDaniels is bringing might be better in the long term.
