Broncos Beef Up Defensive Line

Even with the Jay Cutler controversy hovering heavily over Dove Valley, the Broncos were still wheelin’ and dealin’ in free agency, agreeing to terms with their 9th acquisition. Ronald Fields, a 27 year old defensive tackle from the San Francisco 49ers, agreed in principle to a two year, $5 million contract with the Denver Broncos.

Fields, at 6-2 and 315 pounds, was added to bring depth and beef to the Broncos defensive line, something it was severely lacking last season, and something it will desperately need this year if they intend on switching to the 3-4 scheme. Fields played in all 16 games for the 49ers last season, recording 19 tackles.

This signing continues to follow the Broncos plan so far this offseason, which is to stay away from the big name guys and instead go after consistent, if not flashy, guys that will come in and shore up a defense that gave up almost 450 points last season.

In conclusion, outside if McDaniels ridiculous idea to try to trade Cutler for Cassel, the Broncos have done a lot of good this offseason, making a slew of defensive and offensive signings that will go a long way towards helping the Broncos improve.
