Day 1: More NFL Combine Notes…

Kory Sperry Was Todays Surprise Peformance

Kory Sperry Was Today's Surprise

Today was an interesting combine and a lot of things stood out to me. As you know our combine coverage sucked but we hope to have everything working for you tomorrow. With that said, here are a couple of major things that really stood out to me.

First off, the top Tight End in the class Brandon Pettigrew from Oklahoma State did not impress at all. He had an average broad and vertical jump but he was not even able to get under a 4.80, 40 yard dash. He even tried it 3 times. We know he is more of a blocking Tight End and is a lot better on the field but I think everyone expected a bit more from him. Expect him to have to really make some noise at the Oklahoma State Pro Day.

Second, Jared Cook looked very fast today as he dominated in the 40 yard dash with a run under 4.50. It was very impressive and will help his stock as a pass catching Tight End.

Michael Oher and Eugene Monroe both need to work on their strength a bit as their bench presses seemed a bit weak. It doesn’t matter because between them and Andre Smith, at least they did something.

Finally, I thought the dark horse or surprise of the day was Kory Sperry, a Tight End from Colorado State. He finished in the top 10 40 yard dashes, vertical jumps, second in the broad jump, and I thought had the best catching drill of the day. Also, I just got this in, he had the best 60 and 40 yard shuffle.
