Former Broncos receiver David Kircus is serving two years’ unsupervised probation as part of a plea deal that allowed him to avoid trial on an assault charge. Not many people actually knew that the former Denver Bronco pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault on November 14th.

He was scheduled for trial this week on a felony assault charge, which carries a sentence to five to 16 years in prison. Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputies said Kircus punched a 26-year-old man in the eye after Kircus was asked to leave a party in suburban Denver in May 2007.

The man had a minor facial injury including multiple fractures. Kircus initially kept his job after taking a polygraph test and telling Mike Shanahan he had acted in self defense. He was cut in August 2007, a move that was supposed to be unrelated.

It would make sense. Kircus was never that good of a player and when you have Darrell Jackson, Keary Colbert, Chad Jackson, Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, and Glenn Martinez at the time it only makes sense that he would be cut no matter what.
