Position By Position Draft Analysis

December 22, 2008

Today I will give you guys some information of the 2009 Draft and our needs for each position. We will give you each position, some analysis of it. We will tell you if we need someone new at this position and then we’ll give you the need for one each so and when to draft a person at that position.

Basic Analysis: We are content with a Pro Bowl Quarterback in Jay Cutler and are looking for a veteran backup if anything at this position. I do not see any need to get a player in the draft as a backup.

Need: I do not think that we have any draft need at this position. We are completely content.

Draft Analysis: No draft need.

Basic Analysis: We need a Running Back very badly. Injuries have hampered us terribly and we don’t have any impact players at the position anyway. Selvin Young has not shown the breakout potential we thought he had and we need to look for an upgrade.

Need: On a scale of 1 to 10 (one being lowest, ten highest) we are at about an 8.

Draft Analysis: I would look to the second or third round to get a Running Back. Javon Ringer, James Davis, and Arian Foster are prospects.

Basic Analysis: We do not need a Wide Receiver much at this point. We have two star Wide Receivers in Brandon Marshall, and Eddie Royal. If anything we might want to look to a future replacement for Brandon Stokley. That would not be needed at all.

Need: On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the lowest, 10 the highest) we are at about a 2.

Draft Analysis: I would go to the 5th round but that would be a wasted pick because we are in bigger need of a defense.

[Offensive Line and Tight Ends will not be addressed because there is absolutely know need for anybody at either position.]

Basic Analysis: We could use a Defensive Tackle very very well and we need one very very badly. Dewayne Robertson and Marcus Thomas are just not getting the job done. If we could get one through the draft it would be great.

Need: On a scale of 1 to 10 we are at a 9.

Draft Analysis: First or second round would be best for Defensive Tackle but I would go second round because I think that there is nobody good enough to justify the first round.

Basic Analysis: Defensive End is not our biggest need at all but it is still a big one. Elvis Dumervil has been average lately because of a thumb injury that has nagged at him all season long. Then Engelberger, and Ekuban, and Moss, and whoever are just average.

Need: On a scale of 1 to 10 we are at a 7

Draft Analysis: I would go 3rd or 4th round, leaning on 4th because that is where you can find a lot of sleepers.

Basic Analysis: We could use an upgrade but D.J Williams and Boss Bailey have been doing a good job anchoring the group and making an impact all season long (when they’re not injured).

Need: On a scaled of 1 to 10 we are at a 5.

Draft Anaylsis: We could get a guy at this position in the first round or in the seventh. Either one would not be bad. It all lies in the coaches trust at this position.

Basic Analysis: We are aging at this position and could use a future starter. We need to get someone that is good and could replace one of two great veterans.

Need: On a scale of 1 to 10 we are at a 6.

Draft Analysis: The 6th or 7th round would be a good time to get a playmaker at this position that could train under Champ Bailey.

Basic Analysis: Desperation. We need someone at this position more than I could possibly explain. The need for someone here is dire and necessary. Get someone now!!!!!

Need: 10 and if there was more I would give it an 11.

Draft Analysis: We NEED someone from the first round, whether it be William Moore or Taylor Mays, I don’t care but we do need somebody.
