BM Exclusive Draft Profile: Aaron Curry

December 17, 2008

Aaron Curry I have ranked as one of the best seniors in this years class as he dominates all Outside Linebackers and Linebackers in general. He has done a great job in his senior season for Wake Forest and is a potential first rounder, here is his long awaited draft profile:

Name: Aaron Curry

Position: Outside Linebacker

School: Wake Forest

Height & Weight: 6-3 / 247

Class: Senior

What I Think: Aaron Curry in my opinion is the most NFL ready player in the entire draft. His speed is decent as he clocks around a 4.6 which is good timing for an Outside Linebacker. I could see him going a bit faster in the Combine when it does come. He packs limitless power in his hits and does a great job of driving the runner backwards. He stays square to his tackler which is one of the reasons he is one of the best coverage Linebackers in years. He is smooth in his drop backs and has the strength and the speed to stay with any Tight Ends. It doesn’t matter if its Tony Gonzalez or Jason Witten, Curry could match them perfectly. As for instincts they are very poor. Curry is getting by on a lot of physical talent at this point but remember that with a good coach, all instinctive play will come naturally. That is good because a lot of the middle round teams who are likely to draft him have some decent coaching. If Curry could get some of them to teach him how to play better instinctively, the sky is the limit for Aaron’s NFL career. Curry was a Second team All-ACC linebacker as a junior. He was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week after the North Carolina game when he had seven tackles and two interceptions including an 84-yard return for a touchdown which goes more to show how great he is in coverage. Curry also owns the school records for interception return yards in a season (226) and career (256). One of my favorite stories about him which always makes me feel better about a player when drafting him is how he did not choose his college because of their great football skills but chose Wake Forest because of their excellent academics. That is the guy I want on my team!

Draft Grade: A+
