Exclusive Draft Profile: Patrick Turner

November 26, 2008

Name: Patrick Turner

Position: Wide Receiver

School: USC

Height & Weight: 6-5 / 225

Class: Senior

What I Think: Patrick Turner is a big guy. You can not deny that and being that big while playing a position like Wide Receiver is a nice thing to have. “Turner was one of the most highly recruited players coming out of high school (Rivals #2 WR prospect). He began his career in 2005 when he played twelve games for the Trojans, recording 12 receptions-170 yards-14.2 average-2 TDs.” according to FF Toolbox. He did not disappoint in college. Turner then had a breakout season in the 2007 season. He played in eleven games and recorded 48-569-11.9-3 TDs. It got even better with Mark Sanchez throwing the football where he caught 49 balls for 741 yards (15.1) with 10 TDs. Surprisingly to a lot of people, Turner is a great athlete even though he is not fast. He is very strong and is physical and aggressive. Turner runs crisp, good routes that are easy to follow and to throw to. He has terrific ball skills and body control. With amazing hands that rarely ever fail him, he is a very good target to throw to and brings a different kind of approach to the Wide Receiver position. Turner seems to be made for the Red Zone offense. He is a physical wide receiver that likes to attack the line and his defenders consistently. I swear, it is impossible to jam him. I could see him catching over 5 Touchdowns in his first year pro. But he is slow. Really slow. With only a 4.77 40 yard dash, he is the slowest Wide Receiver in the class and relies on his physical presence totally to overcome his lack of speed. Turner is not explosive off the line and is not a deep threat at all. He rarely ever gets much situation. You have to throw the ball up there for him to get it or else it is easy to get an Interception. He also has only limited upside. Turner is simply a very different yet exciting type of Wide Receiver.
