Mike Mickens

Name: Mike Mickens

Position: Cornerback

School: Cincinnati

Height & Weight: 6-0 / 190

Class: Senior

What I Think: Mike Mickens is a tall Cornerback with great athleticism. According to FFToolbox It did not take long for Mickens to earn a starting job at Cincinnati. By the time his freshman campaign began, the Huber Heights, Ohio product was starting. Throughout his first three seasons with the Bearcats, Mickens was named to a multitude of all-conference teams and tallied ten interceptions. He is a ballhawk of a Cornerback and is a good, safe pick. Some teams might want a much bigger Cornerback but I disagree. He is tall enough to cover tall receivers and definitely big enough to cover small faster receivers. He is a smart player who has been playing for a long time so there is plenty of film for him. He has good instincts too and reads routes fairly well. He is also able to play in both zone and man coverage. He has a good break on the ball and soft hands to make interceptions happen. Mickens also possesses fluid hips that allow him to flip his backpedal and run with receivers. His big Achilles Heel is that he cannot seem to jam receivers well and has no strength at the line. He needs to bulk up at least ten pounds but then you have to question his speed with those extra pounds on top of him. Also when he is in the air bigger receivers can easily push him around. What I do like is how durable he is. He doesn’t have great timed speed, but is quick and fluid in his movements. If he can get stronger, he could be a good starting cornerback in the NFL.
