Rashad Johnson

Name: Rashad Johnson

Position: Free Safety

School: Alabama

Height & Weight: 6-0 / 187

Class: Senior

What I Think: If you are looking for a Ed Reed type ballhawk in this years draft look absolutely no further that Rashad Johnson. He has terrific hands and ball skills not to mention amazing instincts around the ball and just when tackling. He has outstanding range and is smooth and fluid with his hips. He can match up with anybody in coverage and when he gets his hands on the ball he can be deadly in the open field. Johnson is a decent tackler and has a hard core work ethic. He has a great football knowledge and could probably one day make it as a coach. That said, he is not by any means an elite athlete. His height, weight, and speed are average at the absolute best. Johnson does not bring an intimidating physical presence and will be physically dominated by almost every Wide Receiver and Tight End on the field. He is not strong and will offer very little force against the run. He is not the kind of Safety that the Broncos are looking for. Johnson also gets a bit too high on his backpedal and has some minor durability concerns. Johnson lead Alabama with 81 tackles and six interceptions. Johnson also led the team with 13 tackles and a pass breakup in the PetroSun Independence Bowl win over Colorado in his Junior year of college. He has been named 1st Team All-SEC in 2007 and 2008. He was named 2007 Team Captain and earned UA’s Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors and is an excellent leader.
