Scouting Report: Damian Williams

November 21, 2008

Damian Williams, USC, WR

Strengths: Good height … Has very soft hands, won’t have trouble dropping passes … Good ball skills … Quick feet … Changes direction quickly … Pretty fast … Dominates versus zone coverage and can read defenses better than any Wide Receiver in the class … Very polished … Excellent hand eye coordination … Has supposedly very good character and won’t be a “diva receiver.”

Weaknesses: Needs to bulk up a bit for the next level … Can’t play bump and run very well … Is not physical enough at the line and can be beaten, when jammed well … Not a good blocker … Has injury concerns, especially in his shoulder.

Overall: I think what teams will like most about Damian Williams is just how polished he is. Williams will be ready to play in his first year, and will probably have the best statistics of any first round receiver. That’s not to say in his entire career he will be better, but he will have an immediate impact. Williams could be a star Wide Receiver, but he could end up having a tough, tough career battling injuries.
