Scouting Report: Arrelious Benn

November 21, 2008

Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois

Strengths: Has a good burst from the line of scrimmage … Is the classes best possession receiver … Has plenty of experience … Very reliable hands … He is a strong receiver and will fight for extra yards … Has decent speed … Runs good, crisp routes … Has the perfect size for a good possession Wide Receiver … Catches well in traffic … Plays in a tough conference.

Weaknesses: Has trouble getting into the end zone … Does not have great breakaway speed … His second gear is non-existent … Will not transfer well into the NFL as a return man.

Overall: Arrelious Benn is the kind of old fashioned possession Wide Receiver that is not as easy to find in the NFL Draft these days. If I had to compare him with one Wide Receiver it would probably be former Denver Bronco, Ed McCaffery. If Benn can get into the end zone a bit more this year than he did in the past he could be drafted very high and I think he will do just that.
