BM Exclusive Draft Profile: Eugene Monroe

November 17, 2008

Eugene Monroe is one of three star Offensive Linemen in this years draft who seem to be making a splash in Mock Drafts all around the country. Because of this and his high ranking in our Mock Draft we our obliged to give you his FANTASTIC draft profile. Enjoy!

Eugene Monroe

Name: Eugene Monroe

Position: Offensive Tackle

School: Virginia

Height & Weight: 6-6 / 315

Class: Senior

What I Think: Eugene Monroe has become one of the top prospects at Offensive Tackle in this years draft and it will be interesting to see where he lands. In his Junior Season he was an underrated performer who recently broke out of his shell in his Senior Season and has become a favorite in many mock drafts around the nation. Playing for Virginia he has done a good job of opening holes all year. That may not be his biggest strength though. I like him most in the passing game where he is a dominate force and does not let the defender get anywhere near his QB. He has good hand work and can adjust to his opponents on the dime with little thought or work. In the running game he is good but just not great. Get him if you think that you need to protect the pass but if you are intent on creating a better run game I would look for Andre Smith or Michael Oher before I would him. In his Junior year he did not allow a sack all season long which goes to prove my point. He was an Honorable Mention in the All-ACC, ACC Offensive Lineman of the week (Sept. 17) vs. North Carolina, and a second-team All-State by Virginia Sports Information Directors and the Roanoke Times. Monroe is not my favorite of the three great Offensive Linemen in this years draft but would still be an upgrade to any Offensive Line.

Draft Grade: A-
