Sharpe & Friends Are Eligible For The Hall of Fame

October 29, 2008

The Pro Football Hall of Fame voting committee has announced their 133 semi-finalists for the Hall of Fame class of 2009. They include some names you may or may not recognize. 7 of them you should because they are Broncos.

They are former Denver Broncos S Steve Atwater (1989-98), RB Terrell Davis (1995-2002), LB Tom Jackson (1973-86), LB Karl Mecklenburg (1983-94), Head Coach Dan Reeves (1981-92), TE Shannon Sharpe (1990-99, 2002-03) and CB Louis Wright (1975-86).

Floyd Little and Randy Gradishar were eligible for the senior committee, but were not selected for consideration this year.

Shannon Sharpe should be a lock for this year. But Cris Carter was last year too and was not inducted. It could hurt though now that Tony Gonzalez has past him on the all time receiving list for Tight Ends. I expect him to be selected this year though.

In my opinion though, Terrell Davis should be elected this year too no matter how short of a career he had. I think that is only fair. Here the entire list of nominees:

If Shannon Sharpe does not get in on the first try it will be an absolute travesty. I still think it’s a crime that Randy Gradishar and Floyd Little aren’t in. Hopefully they don’t continue to exclude Bronco greats, but I was encouraged to see Zimmerman get in last year.
