As we crank out more and more draft profiles we are going over Mortty Ivy. He is a popular Senior Linebacker and I hope you enjoy this instillation to our draft profiles.

Ivy Fights For The Tackle

Ivy Fights For The Tackle

Name: Mortty Ivy

Position: Outside Linebacker

School: West Virginia

Height & Weight: 6-2 / 236

Class: Senior (RS)

What I Think: Mortty gets by on a little bit of talent, a bit more skill, and a tremendous drive to win and to lead. You will not draft Mortty because of his pure physical skills. If you do it will be a very late round. If you draft him in the 4th or 5th, you will not only be drafting him by talent but some of the best leadership skills in this draft. His stats don’t come from talent but his drive. He will never and I repeat never, give up on a play! I have never seen that from him. Nor has anybody else, because he never has. But I will say this for Ivy, over this last season he has become a lot better at the physical aspect of the game. In only this year, he has had two Interceptions. We are not even half way through the season and he has doubled his amount from last year. His skills at reading defenses have also blossomed and has done a lot better job of knowing what to do in clutch situations and making good decisions. Ivy is very versatile and has the ability to contribute in a number of defensive packages and on every special teams system in the NFL today. Last year he tied for the team lead in forced fumbles and recovered 2 fumbles. I love his leadership too. This year West Virginia had very few good veterans left on their defense. A flux of new defenders came in and Ivy has done a great job of teaching them and leading them to become a much better defense than anyone expected them to be. Recently Mountaneers coach Bill Stewart praised his great leadership against Villinova. He ended the game with 5 tackles, a sack, a half-tackle for loss, a fumble recovery, and an interception. He returned the fumble and interception for a combined 59 yards. Mortty is a great physical player in college but his physical talents such as forcing fumbles will not be able to be used as much in the NFL with such great ball carriers. Ivy is by far one of the most underrated Linebackers in the draft.
