Adding Insult To Injury

October 26, 2008

Via Rocky Mountain News:

Monday’s loss to the Patriots was bruising in many ways for the Broncos, who left Gillette Stadium with several injuries, including to eight-time Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey.

It also turned out to be an expensive loss. The NFL fined tackle Ryan Harris, linebacker Jamie Winborn and running back Michael Pittman $5,000 each for infractions in that game.

Harris was fined for shoving a Patriots player to the ground after an Andre Hall fumble in the first quarter. Harris was penalized for unnecessary roughness on the play.

Winborn was fined for what was characterized as a “major facemask” on Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel in the second quarter. Winborn was flagged for unnecessary roughness on what turned out to be an incomplete pass.

Pittman was fined for a chop block – hitting a defensive player low when the player is already engaged up high.

We just can’t catch a break can we?
