Saturday’s Horsing Around With Jon Krause

September 27, 2008

Garrett here. Hey guys I thought I would take a moment just to tell you guys on all the great stuff going on at Jon’s blog Denver Broncos News By Jon. They are rocking it out this week with new polls, game previews, photo reviews, and so much more. It has become a great place to go on for a small little snapshot of the Broncos. Here is the man himself, Jon Krause:

Week 4, September 28, 2008. Broncos (3-0) Vs. Chiefs (0-3). In Arrowhead. Oh boy what a game it’ll be! The first three games the Broncos are first ranked in the NFL in points per game with 38.0, and second in total yards a game racking up 432! Jay Cutler is having what looks just like a Mike Shanahan third year QB. In just 3 weeks he piled up 914 yards, 8 TD’s and a QB rating of 110.6! Now that is sweet!

Last year in two starts against the Chiefs Jay had 436 passing yards and 5 TD tosses. And how about Selvin Young, who many have said to have been a little bit of a disappointment this season. But with only getting 26 carries and pounding out a 6.9 yards per rush average and finding the end zone, that’s not all that bad. He is sharing much of the load with Andre Hall.

Andre has run the ball 23 times smashing out 117 yards with a 5.1 average per rush. Some have remarked that Selvin is one of the worst at finding the end zone. But this year, that’s because third-down, goal line running-back Michael Pittman has stole all the close to the end zone carries. Pittman has only averaged 2.3 a rush. So why do so many people (like myself) love him so much? Cause he has the ability to seem to always find the end zone.

In the Bolts game he jumped the line for a sweet TD, something that gets backs noticed the most in the NFL. Everybody loves to watch a player do that. He has 4 rushing touchdowns heading into week 4. Michael is the first Broncos running back since Terrell Davis in ’97 to rush for a TD in the first three weeks of the season. Selvin’s, his first TD was against the Chiefs last year. In his two games vs Kansas City (he’s rookie year, last year) Young ran for 265 yards and his only touchdown of the year.

One guy that I’ll be watching very closely in the game is my favorite current Bronco-Elvis Dumervil. In his rookie year (2006) with the Broncos Dumervil sacked quarterbacks 8.5 times! And he did not start alot of the first half of the season. Then last year he added to his total sacking opposing QB’s 12.5 times! Though he has started out slow this year with no sacks yet (he had a forced fumble, not on paper but in my opinion. He was pressuring JarMarcus Russell and he tried to throw the ball and it fell behind his back-a fumble, Ekuban recovered.) I think he’ll have a good game when playing the Chiefs.

Last year in two games playing them he got 4 sacks and forced fumbles. Another guy to keep an eye on is Brandon Marshall, in just 2 games he’s caught 24 of Jays 73 completions. Also getting 321 yards and 2 TD’s. The young WR has even a more advantage now that DB’s also have to worry about Rookie wide-out Eddie Royal. Not to mention Tony  Scheffler , whom I won’t-in this post.

Eddie has grabbed 18 passes for 2 TD’s and 194 yards. Ed is the guy the Broncos organization has been waiting/hoping for for a long time. His spark that we get from a #2 wide receiver and his great kick return ability are some thing we’ve all longed for since Eddy Mac. Marshall in his last 2 games against the Chiefs caught 200 yards receiving and 2 TD’s. The Chiefs pass secondary is ranked very high, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens. On the other hand KC’s run ‘D’ is ranked nearly last, so we’ll see what happens with that. KC has started 3 different QB’s in the first 3 games, and their running game has been slow. LJ showed a spark of what they can do last week when he got his first 100 yard rush game of the year. If the Broncos win this game the AFC West will have been all Broncos so far.

The Raiders will play the Chargers on Sunday also. Cheer you’re head off for Oakland, I know it’ll be very hard to do…with the Bolts starting to look like themselves again last week when they played the Jets, the Broncos need help from every team to beat them for the ‘West.

The Broncos have won four of the past six meetings. Oh, did I mention that the last time we played KC we killed them 41-7? Chiefs are 0-3 for the first time since 2004. Herm Edwards’ Chiefs have lost 12 straight games, going back to last year. If Denver wins, Mike Shanahan will have his 150th win. And  Casey Wiegmann whom has done a great job of filling in for Tom Nalen will play his first game against the team that he’s spent much of his great career with, the Chiefs. The Chiefs stated that Damon Huard will be the QB this week, that’s the forth switch in 4 weeks! Huard will go against DB’s like Champ and Dre’ who have had a history of having good games when playing Kansas. I won’t jinx us, but will say that it should be a fun game to watch.

And to end my game preview, Here’s an nfl.com video: Broncos and Chiefs preview.
