Game Review & Team Prognosis

August 17, 2008

That was quite a game for the Broncos. Our performance in the first quarter was absolutely magical. No joke. We played fabulous. Or at least we did with our first team.

Some of our plays were not beautiful by any means. But they worked. That is what matters. We even coined a new name for Patrick Ramsey. The Pat Rat. We were there the whole time as Jon Krause and I live blogged the whole game.

Our running game was decent as we totaled over 100 rushing yards and a TD. I was impressed but I found that Selvin Young was a bit wishy-washy. I still love the kid but that was not his best game. Andre Hall was the only one who played with a TD. On the other hand Michael Pittman had the most yards mainly due to the fact that he ran the most attempts.

Brandon Marshall caught a lot of balls but did not get many yards off of them. Marshall caught 6 passes for 59 yards and a Touchdown. Eddie Royal was a deep threat with 67 yards off of only two catches. I loved him performance and he caught some tough balls too having to jump to catch them both. A no name that performed well was Cliff Russell who caught 3 throws for 28 yards. One of them was a 19 yard catch too.

Matt Prater yet again was 3-4 on Field Goals and 2-2 on Extra Points. That would make him 6-8 this Pre-Season. I am not too disappointed but I wish he could show me more. He had some nice kickoffs on the other hand. Most of them were boots into the End Zone.

The QB’s spoke for themselves. Especially Jay Cutler. He had a 100% completion rating until his 14th pass. Even by the end of the game he was 16-20 and had 178 yards and a TD. Pat Rat surprisingly did not throw a single INT. But his performance was still adequate at best. He was 8-13 with 68 yards. Darrell Hackney only threw one pass the entire game but it was a completion for 10 yards.

The Defense was really good. We had improved drastically at Run Defense as we only allowed 70 yards and not a single Touchdown. Foxworth had the most tackles of anyone and was exciting through the whole game. Jack Williams had an INT and was very impressive. Dre’ Bly must be feeling very pushed on to keep his starting job. Kenny Peterson had a sack and 2 other tackles besides that.

It overall was a great game. I was amazed on how much we improved on pivotal parts of our game. This included executing in the Red Zone which we had done terribly last week against the Texans. Pat Rat also improved which I was pleasantly surprised by. Here is my prognosis for the Broncos:

Put out Darrell Hackney more and Cutler less. We now know that Jay Cutler is playing at an elite level. Let’s not risk the injury. I would rather see more Darrell Hackney.

Keep up the Red Zone success. We need to do exactly what we did this game when it comes to executing in the Red Zone.

Dewayne Robertson needs to improve and become a bigger part of the line. If he comes out and plays at his top tier level than we can destroy teams running games. So Dewayne, come on out here and do something more for this team.

My Game MVP’s are:

O: Jay Cutler (You can see his game highlights by clicking here).

D: Jack Williams

I say put in Rat and have him get injured, rather than beating D-Hack 🙂
And Robertson really does need to step up
