I Can’t Even Write This Article Myself

July 23, 2008

My day is destroyed after I read this article. Rod Smith has officially retired. I am so sad about this sad news and the loss of such a great player. 😦 Here is the article from ESPN:

In a formality, Broncos all-time leading wide receiver Rod Smith is set to announce his retirement on Thursday.

Smith did not play in the 2007 season after having hip surgery. After a second procedure this winter, the team put him on the reserve list, but Smith had said that he wasn’t yet ready to officially retire.

A source close to Smith said on Wednesday that Smith has decided to move on.

Thinking he still might play, Smith turned down a chance to be the Broncos receivers coach in February.

John Elway’s favorite target in the Broncos’ Super Bowl years, Smith finishes with 849 receptions for 11,389 yards in 12 seasons, all with Denver. He made three Pro Bowls and led the league in receptions with 113 in 2001.
