Sonny Anderson’s Thought of the Week

July 6, 2008

Hey everyone! today I am going to tell you all about something that has been bugging me for the past few days. Brett Favre has “the itch” to come back. Remember people, he said he retired at the end of the 2006-2007 season. He cried at his retirement speech. Then he said he would come back to play, and he did last season.

After the 2007-2008 season, he retired again! And he cried in his speech for retirement. I like Brett Favre, he is a future Hall of Famer, but I don’t want him to really hurt himself. You could see in the playoff game vs. the New York Giants where it was freezing cold that Favre’s body was physically slowing down compared to the younger players.

I don’t want him to hurt himself in the long run. He is a lot older, and his bones are weaker, if he takes a bone-crushing hit from a guy like Julius Peppers, or any defensive linemen, he will most likely be in a lot of pain, and on the DL the rest of his career.

Brett Favre had called the team and said he had “the itch” to play about a week ago. He asked if he could start playing, but the Packers refused to let him in. Then he asked if he could be released and the Packers refused again.

I don’t think anyone needs Brett Favre anymore, he needs to let Aaron Rogers play to his full potential. The man has been waiting a couple years to get out on the field and lead this team.

Brett Favre has earned many awards in his career, and it is time to just take his rewards and go somewhere away from the football field. He needs to relax and enjoy what life gives him. If he really wants to get on the field or be associated with football, he should go and act like a mentor to Aaron Rogers and help him with his game. Please leave me a comment on whether you think Brett Favre should come out of retirement.
