Triangular Table – Brandon Marshall’s Future?

July 2, 2008

Garret here. I hope you liked our last triangular table. The stats showed you did. It was the most popular post in Bronco Madness history since our 2008 Mock Draft. But the group is back to give you our opinion on a topic that is haunting us all. What is the future of Brandon Marshall? I am sure you all know what is going on around here with Brandon Marshall and his domestic violence charges. But now we have the team back to discuss it.

Jeff Winters:

I believe Brandon Marshall to be the most talented wide receiver to come into the league since TO. He has size, speed, hands and elusiveness. He is the most exciting player on our offense. All of that being said, also like TO, he has some deep personal issues to work on. Unlike TO, these issues could cause him to be benched by the league instead of his team.

Brandon Marshall should be suspended. It pains me to say that because I believe he is an integral part of our season. Marshall should be suspended for the first 2-4 games of the season. He has twice been arrested in a domestic dispute with reports that he hit his girlfriend. He also has a DUI. These are errors that cannot be condoned. He’s not Pac-Man Jones or Chris Henry, but who’s to say that he doesn’t become that much of a black eye on our team. The Broncos don’t need that. The Broncos need good press on and off the field. After two Broncos dying, The Travis Henry paternity and marijuana issues and now this, the Broncos need the focus back on all the good they do in the community.

There are several silver linings to a possible Marshall suspension. Better to miss a few games now than screw up again and miss a season. Maybe he can actually learn from his mistakes. Javon Walker going down last year is what enabled Marshall to show what he was made of on the field. Would any of the receivers step up if need be? Good to know that at the beginning of the season. The Broncos could probably win at least 2, maybe 3, of the first four games without Marshall. If they play well at the other positions.

Maybe most importantly is what the suspension could possibly do for Marshall. This is a young man who, if able to keep his head on his shoulders and out of his ass, could be a special talent in this league for the next 10-12 years. He needs a wake up call and if it takes being told that he can’t do the thing that he loves most then so be it.

Garret Barnes:

This is always the tough part because I have to choose between what is right and how much I want the Broncos to win but here is the thing. I think what he has allegedly done justifies being suspended. I think he deserves this and usually I would be all for him being suspended but I do not want to see him in trouble for something he did not do.

Let’s face it, this woman has some problems and is being represented by attorneys renowned for squeezing money out of sports players or just plain people who did not do anything wrong. Mainly those sports players are being sued by women who are utterly crazy. Randy Moss would be the golden example.

On the other hand he has had past incidents and it is a miracle he has not been suspended already. This woman has accused him multiple times. He has been caught drinking and driving. He has fired guns in parking lots. Brandon Marshall by no means is an angel and presonally I think that this would be good for him to learn his lesson.

But again not if it is something he didn’t do. He needs to make better decisions. Period. The Broncos need to get rid of all the off the field issues in their locker room. I’m not saying we should release this young man but we still need to have him make a change. We do not want him becoming Adam Pac-Man (whatever his name is) Jones or Chris Henry. I think he is somewhere inside a good person. He goes and helps children play football and works in the community.

I think the best thing to do would be the American way of making this decision and suspend him only if he is proven guilty. It might happen. If we have to take football away from this kid I am sorry but that is just a fact of life. What goes around comes around.

Sonny Anderson:

I am going to be honest with what I say about my opinion. Brandon Marshall had hit his girlfriend and was charged for battery charges. Everyone reading this should remember the Kobe Bryant case. He was put through many trials and was put away from the NBA for a short time. I think Brandon Marshall will be suspended for the 2008-2009 season. I think it will take him a lot of begging to get him suspended for even half the season.

It is a sad story because Brandon had just recovered from a hand injury and now he is in a ton of trouble. I always thought this guy has a lot of talent and could become something really big. Now he is in a big mess and has to cut away from training with the rest of the team. Sometimes team members don’t work well together after they have been away from each other for a while. Their chemistry crumbles when they haven’t worked together for a while.

Brandon Marshall has really ruined part of his career. I like this WR a lot but if he is going to get himself into trouble like this, the Broncos should let him go! So Brandon Marshall you better keep away from the slammer and stay on the Broncos!

This is what happens when you go stupid. I like you Brandon but this is what you get and what you deserve.

Consensus:

It’s sad but true Brandon Marshall needs to be suspended. He has been a problem long enough. No matter what talent he may bring to the team he deserves what he is going to get. It may depend on a court of law or it could just happen. Most likely it will not be long. We will miss him but we may have to go on without Marshall for a little while.

I agree with everybody but Sonny. Sonny this is nothing like the Kobe Bryant case.

He is right Sonny. Marshall hasn’t even been in a trial yet.

The NFL Commisioner is very strict against players getting into deep trouble. Brandon will most likely miss a lot of training camp with the team.

That does not explain the Kobe thing

Kobe Bryant had kicked a girl while in a fight. He was put in court for a long time if you remember this Garrett. I remember always going to sportscenter and seeing them discuss the Kobe Bryant case. Brandon Marshall has also had a DUI case, so he should be going to court soon….

I agree with Garret, kind of agree with Jeff, and could not disagree more with Sonny if I tried. Sonny you are completely wrong.

Sonny I might think that you are extreme if I had not read you before. You are an idiot and know nothing about sports. You should move to some basketball site if you want to make stupid connections to Kobe.

First of all, “Chock Full O’Tricks” is a g** a** name. I am being called an idiot by a guy who calls himself Chock Full O’Tricks. Anyway, just because Brandon Marshall is a Bronco, doesn’t mean he gets special treatment. To be a true fan, you have to be a fan of the sport. Brandon Marshall is ruining his career by getting into trouble like this. You can’t disagree with

What are you talking about?! D*** it! That makes no sense! You are totally missing the point of what I am complaining about.

Well now I know two people who should never meet in person.

garret, brandon didn’t shoot a gun in the parking lot. his father said he did after their argument, but witnesses of the incident told police that no such thing happened.

like marcus thomas, i think a lot of brandon’s problems are a result of those he surrounds himself with. his father and girlfriend are obviously not good for him, and i would guess his company had some influence on his decision to drink and drive as well.

i think the ideal would be a 2 game suspension, hopefully he finally realizes whats at stake by having it taken away. i don’t think he’s a bad person, just always is in bad situations.

brandon needs to spend all his time in 08 alone or with teammates to make sure there are no other incidents.

The reason Marshall keeps getting into trouble is because he has never been held accountable for any of his misdeeds. If you keep getting away with things you tend to believe that you are above the law. This is a great part of the problem, Marshall has never had to pay for any of these issues. Whether the girlfriend pressed charges or not, he needs to know this type of behavior is unbecoming of any person whether he is a professional football player or just plain joe smoe. This lack of accountablility also makes you think you can get away with anything. he needs to face up to his conduct and be suspended. he will never learn his lessons in life, whether good or bad if everyone keeps making excuses for him. Let him pay for his mistakes. We all have too! I agree with Sonny Anderson.
