Vanderjagt Possible New Kicker?

April 14, 2008

When you have a great kicker and you he is jobless. You have just released one of the greatest kickers ever and you have one of the worst kickers in the league starting it seems that you might want to talk. That is exactly what Mike Vanderjagt and the Denver Broncos will be doing this week at a tryout for the starting position.

The Broncos are right now in need for some veteran competition against Matt Prater who they are not sold on. So Vanderjagt seems like a real good choice for the job.

He spent his first 8 seasons with Indianapolis where he became one of the most accurate kickers in the league. He then last year played for the Dallas Cowboys until he was cut and failed two tryouts. They were with both the Jaguars and the Saints.

He did however make 13 out of 14 field goals in a tryout with the Chiefs.

We also looked at Mitch Berger on Monday to possibly compete with Prater

Vanderjagt has been out of work since an ’06 training camp when Bill Parcells cut him after he was seriously injured. Since then he has not played anywhere

“We all find it a little bit difficult to understand why when he’s been such a good kicker,” His agent said to the Rcoky Mountain News. “But hopefully there’s an opportunity here and he can show what he can do.”
