McCree and Manuel Signed

March 9, 2008

Everyone in the NFL knew our goal this free agency period. It was very simple, we had to make ourselves defensive threats again. Today we continued this trend by signing Marlon McCree and Marquand Manuel.

Both are veteran safeties. One of them will start immediately and one of them will wait until John Lynch retires next year.

These moves were not only made to beef up our safety position, but it was also made to protect ourselves from a weak safety class in this years draft.

Last year we had the leagues weakest run defense and we have spent our off-season improving that. We took Boss Bailey and Niko Koutouvides from the free-agent pool.

Manuel last season with the Panthers had 18 tackles, 1 FF, 1 interception, and a sack. He has played with the Packers, Seahawks, Bengals, Panthers, and now Broncos. He was signed to a 4.5 million dollar contract over 3 years with $500,000 guaranteed.

Marlon McCree has played with the Jaguars, Texans, Chargers, and the Panthers as well. Before being released by the Chargers this year he had 67 tackles, 1 FF, and 3 interceptions. Details of his contract were not disclosed.
